Psychotherapy, intensively

A retreat built around the therapy, not around the retreat.

The term psychotherapy retreat can describe very different things across Europe. Some programmes include occasional therapy alongside wellness activities. Others are primarily coaching, spiritual practice or general wellbeing.

The Ridge is different. Psychotherapy sits at the centre of the five days. Simon Hitchcock leads the therapeutic work personally, using the continuity of an intensive format to work with patterns that can be difficult to reach when therapy is broken into short weekly appointments.

The programme takes place in Andalusia in southern Spain. Participants travel from the UK, Europe and further afield, with agreed Málaga airport transfers, nearby rural accommodation and meals included.

Why an intensive format

Sometimes one hour a week is not enough continuity.

Weekly psychotherapy can be deeply useful. It can also create a particular rhythm: something important opens, the hour ends, ordinary life resumes, and the next session begins a week later.

An intensive creates a different kind of continuity. Five days allow Simon to observe how a pattern appears across conversations, relationships, physical responses, challenge and rest rather than only through what can be described in a therapy room.

Individual psychotherapy remains central. Equine work, breathwork, physical challenge, wilderness and selected group integration are used only where they reveal or support something relevant to the therapeutic process.

This is not faster therapy for the sake of speed. It is concentrated time for work that may need sustained attention.

A General Retreat with Therapy

Therapy may be one part of a broader schedule alongside wellness, coaching, yoga, fitness or spiritual practice. The emphasis is often on the overall retreat experience rather than an integrated psychotherapy process.

The Ridge Psychotherapy Intensive

Five continuous days led personally by an experienced integrative psychotherapist. The programme is built around sustained therapeutic work, with selected experiential elements used in service of that work.

Further information

Common questions.

What is a psychotherapy retreat?
At The Ridge, it is a five-day intensive programme in which psychotherapy sits at the centre of the work. Simon Hitchcock leads the therapeutic process personally, with selected experiential elements used where they support that process.
Where in Europe is The Ridge?
The Ridge is near Pizarra in Andalusia, southern Spain, around forty minutes from Málaga Airport.
Is this the same as a wellness retreat?
No. The setting includes nature, accommodation and space away from ordinary life, but the programme is organised around psychotherapy rather than general wellness activities.
Why choose intensive psychotherapy rather than weekly therapy?
Weekly therapy can be highly effective. An intensive is different because it provides several continuous days to stay with a process, observe patterns as they happen and work without a full week of ordinary life between sessions.
Who leads the psychotherapy?
Simon Hitchcock, a British integrative psychotherapist with more than fifteen years of clinical experience, leads the therapeutic work personally throughout.
Do participants travel from outside Spain?
Yes. The programme is designed for people travelling from the UK, Europe and further afield. Agreed transfers from Málaga Airport are included.
What does the programme cost?
The scheduled five-day Ridge Intensive is €9,500 per person, including accommodation, meals, agreed airport transfers, the programme and ninety days of direct follow-up.
Is The Ridge a psychiatric or addiction treatment clinic?
No. The Ridge is not an inpatient, detoxification, emergency or medically supervised service and is not suitable where that level of care is required.
Psychotherapy without the weekly interruption

Some work needs more than another hour.

If you are looking across Europe for a psychotherapy retreat because you need time to work with something more deeply, the first step is a private conversation about whether The Ridge is the right setting.
